The South Dakota Department of Revenue is presenting a Small Business Workshop on April 21st in Watertown on the Lake Area Technical Institute Campus.
Individuals who are self-employed, business owners, office managers/bookkeepers or those handling business transactions should attend this all-day informative workshop. Starting at 8 a.m. the SD Department of Labor and Regulations, Small Business Development Center and Small Business Administration will present an Overview of Business Services. Then from 9 to 11 a.m. the SD Department of Labor and Regulation will present information about the SD Unemployment Insurance System and from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. a presentation on the SD Labor and Employment Law and SD Workers’ Compensation System. After a break for lunch the presentations resume again starting at 1:15 with a presentation on SD Sales and Use Tax from the SD Department of Revenue. After a quick break, the SD Department of Revenue will present again on SD Contractors’ Excise Tax.
Staff from the Department of Labor and Regulation, which offers information on local offices of the Unemployment Insurance and the Labor and Management Divisions, along with the Department of Revenue, which offers information on sales and use tax and contractors’ tax, will be able to answer questions like:
- What taxes am I responsible for and when are they do?
- What forms do I need and how do I fill them out?
- When do I withhold taxes from employees’ wages?
- Is my record keeping system okay for the necessary tax information?
- What professional services are available to me at no cost?
