You may recall hearing about the Century Farm project earlier this year. If not, it was a project coordinated by Deuel Area Development to connect the community, the Elementary School, and the High School. Century farm owners from all over Deuel County were invited to the school to share their life stories, farm histories, and memories from the past. Mrs. Schwenn’s junior class and Mr. Trautman’s 4th graders gathered together to get a blast from the past.
During the presentations, the 4th graders were in charge of the artwork. They colored pictures of what they thought the century farm looked like. The juniors had to be creative in a different way and wrote summaries of each community member’s farm.
Overall, there were 15 century farms presented to the students. The Bucholz, Feten, Kjenstad, Davis, Gauger, Hauger, Aderhold, Megaard, Hunt, Severson, Greenfield, Johnson, and Brandt farms along with the Bar X Ranch were all learned about.
If you take a trip to the Courthouse in the future, you will see the displays of the farms on the first floor. The articles and colored pictures have been recently converted to large display boards that add even more
to the already creative projects. Only 5 boards will be displayed at a time due to space. The 5 century farms displayed at the present time are:
- Bucholz
- Davis
- Brandt
- Aderhold
- Feten
Come to the Courthouse and see what these talented students have done! However, if you can’t make it into town, don’t worry. You may check out the Century Farm projects over at Buffalo Ridge Resort and Business Center in the near future! Our youth will have their work exhibited alongside some of the best artists in the area.
You truly need to see these boards for yourself. Not only are they interesting, but they are beautiful, too!
